Drivetrain: What is it?
The drivetrain of a car is the system that lets it move forward under its own power. It generally consists of the engine, transmission, and drive axle.
What does it do?
The engine produces the power that drives the wheels, while the transmission controls the application of that power. The drive axle connects the wheels to the engine and transmission, allowing them to work together to propel the vehicle. Drivetrains can be either front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive.
Typical Wear and Tear
Over time, the drivetrain components can wear down from use and may need to be replaced. The most common issue is transmission failure, which can be caused by a variety of factors including low fluid levels, leaks, or worn-out bearings. The problems can also cause gears to slip or fail to engage. Differential issues can cause noise or vibration, and driveshaft problems can result in a loss of power or increased fuel consumption.
